Ron Burr gives a lot of credit to the co-founders at CallFire Inc. for bringing him on to lead their business. But as tough as it was for Komnieve Singh, TJ Thinakaran, Vijesh Mehta and Punit Shah to swallow their pride and turn to someone else to lead their business, it was also a tough situation for Burr.

CallFire, Inc., the cloud-based text and voice platform that helps organizations communicate with their target audiences, today announced the company was voluntarily dismissed by plaintiff John Luna from his Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) class action against multiple defendants in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

Politicians are turning to mobile marketing for their political campaigns. Most recently, Sen. Ted Cruz is using SMS to connect with supporters during election season. Strategic analyst for marketing, Sean Gera, at CallFire told Mobile Marketer that voice broadcasting and robocalling have been used be campaigns for years and that the issue now is implementing SMS. Gera believes these new tactics will reach different audiences.

This time last year, I embarked on my dream to climb Mt. Everest to stand on the top of the world. One month into the climb, a tragic avalanche killed 16 Sherpa mountaineering guides in the treacherous Khumbu Icefall section between Base Camp and Camp One. A week later, all the expeditions on the South side of the mountain were terminated and I returned home safe and sound, yet my dreams were unfulfilled.

CallFire scored a legal victory today that could have significant downstream implications for the broader technology and telecom industries. In the case Rinky Dink, Inc. vs. Electronic Merchant Systems, heard in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington, two plaintiffs claimed that CallFire had violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Announcing Device (WADAD) statute, and Washington State law by facilitating unwanted prerecorded sales calls by a vendor selling credit card processing services.

For the most part, long gone are the days when a doctor made house calls, and even longer since, “take two pills and call me in the morning,” was the standard prescription. Advancements in medicine over the last half-century have been profound, possibly matched only by the way we communicate with one another, two areas not necessarily mutually inclusive, but rather intrinsically linked.
